With all the time I spent with my mistress, City of Heroes, I thought my painting skills may have diminished, mostly due to some failed attempts.
Then I decided to change gears and begin to grind out my Warhammer 40K Tau army (largely unfinished). Then SOMEone had to say Warmachine. I took this as ahidden message sent to me by... someone... I don't know. I just got them out and started painting.
First my original, very first box set Cryx. These I painted and stored for a few years.
Deneghra
Slayer Helljack
Now the newest painted ones.
Mechanithrall. This was the best pic of him.
Bane Thrall
both Pistol Wraiths
single Pistol Wraith
So, ah, completely unfounded I guess. |

Oh yeah, I see what you mean Aaron. Your painting skills have totally diminished. These figures are merely terrific whereas your older stuff was frickin' awesome.
I hate to see an artist let his talent fade away like this.
Great stuff as always sir! Can't wait to see the Tau.
As far as the slightly blurry picture of the thrall, try backing up just a bit and using the zoom feature. Brace you elbows on the table too or, if your camera has it like mine does, use the "steady" feature.
And I always have loved how they're called Pistol Wraiths yet their guns are the size of Winchesters! _________________ "So understand / Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years / Face up ... make your stand / And realize you're living in the golden years" -- from "Wasted Years" by Iron Maiden |

Thanks.
I agree, Scott, but then again ghosts not being scary enough would just look plain silly with little deringers. I love those models though. I wanted to put a faded and torn Cygnar symbol on them.
And oddly, my Tau are very tame painting and basic colors. Not much on the way of flair on them. Yes they are a metallic blue, but I purposely avoided making each one stand out. "Cogs in the greater machine," kind of thing. |

I have at least a dozen minis unpainted along with some brushes, paint, inks, etc. and I really need to paint them. We need to have a painting workshop day in July or August..prepare for the con! _________________ "Fairy tales don't teach children that monsters exist. Children already know that monsters exist.

me?
I guess we could use fold out tables at the store...? And I have more than enough paints to go around. If there is room at the store, I have my own fold out table I can carry with me. I do need to make terrain though as I am out of any at the moment..
And as for armies:
Warhammer Fantasy lots of points (?) not actually counted yet. I got rid of my Imperial Guard army and kept my Wood Elves. I could possibly reach 2000 to 3000 easy.
Warhammer 40K I have both Tyranids and Tau. My Tyranid group is about 1500 to 2000 pts but is not within force organization. Too many large models and not enough troops. My Tau (not sure of the new edition point costs) is about 2000+ points and is within force organization. Even though I have a laundry list of figs I want.
Necrumunda I have a Spryers unit. Though for a cmapaign I want to get some Escher models.
Warmchine I have a Cryx army that is a little under 600 pts. I have single figs Haley from Cygnar and Vlad from Khador. I am still trying to figure out what other units I want for my Cryx.
I do not have any Hordes as of yet but I will probably collect Skorne when it comes time.
I was trying to make an Elven army for Reaper's game, I figured I can sub my WH Fantasy figs if neccessary.
Other than that I have some Chaos for Battlefleet Gothic, a few orks for Gorka Morka, and loads of clicky game figs. |

| We need a closer place to play. I absolutely cannot make it out to Tampa for games. I do plan on coming to this meeting, so if no one wants to learn, I wanna battle! |

Glad you are coming to the meeting, Aaron!
I was serious about the workshop. I am waiting to hear what date is good for folks and then I am going to reserve the Social Hall at the UU for a Saturday afternoon. We can all bring what paints we want and paint together, sharing tips. I also have a couple of painting movies but have never watched them because I accidentally bought VCR tapes and our VCR is broken. But they do have one at the UU we can use.
I need some motivation to paint mine before Hurricon. _________________ "Fairy tales don't teach children that monsters exist. Children already know that monsters exist.

Bring it! We can battle like crazy on Friday & I even talked to Scott about Saturday at the Fantasy Factory. So we may be able to double up on gaming. I mean, he has a 10 x 20 space in the middle of the store not being used and we do get 10% off on gaming items for being LRPG members. I'm going to remind him on Wednesday or Thursday to confirm that its okay before we head over. And that would be awesome. Even if it were only between 10 and 6. That's probably 7 & 1/2 hours of gaming goodness, with a quick setup and breakdown at either end of the day.
I'll try to bring the variety pack on Friday so that we can have some choices. _________________ http://hmgs-south.com/

Well, ok then, sounds great on both.
Laura, pick the date and shoot me a pm, I'll attend and help out. Gladly.
And, Ralph, I can make to the store no problem on Saturdays. Do you need terrain? I need to know if I should make some.
Please, Scott, please, can we come and play at the store?!!!!!! hehehe |

Not that long. I don't take as long as some painters (Golden Demon or cool mini or not). I average about 3 hours of painting. The longest time was waiting for the green stuff I put on him to dry. His cape was never the best fit, I shored up his sword arm for good measure, and all of the snow blobs are green stuff. The rock I found out around the housing sites that are being built around me. I am collecting rocks when I walk my dog. _________________ Oh good, my way. Thank you Vizzini... what's my way?

You da man! Vlad looks great Aaron. Thank you very much.
I'm guessing that the metal bits and sword appear darker in the photos than they are in reality. (Pictures tend to do that.) The white looks really good on the figure, maybe even a bit better than the red of the Privateer Press studio painted figure. I think the lighter color makes the sculpt more impossing somehow.
Thanks again. _________________ "So understand / Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years / Face up ... make your stand / And realize you're living in the golden years" -- from "Wasted Years" by Iron Maiden |

Yeah the photo is of a light fig so the dark areas just jump right out. _________________ Oh good, my way. Thank you Vizzini... what's my way?

I think I'm going to hijack this thread for my Warmachine/Hordes minis.
With Hordes MkII coming to completion I wanted some input so...
This is the start of my Skorne army. I love the samurai look, but with them coming across a desert I like the idea of an Egyptian color scheme.
I have painted 2 minis. A Cyclops Shaman and a Extoller Soulward.
A closer look of the Cyclops. And his back.
I want to fix the face a bit on the Extoller.
Should I keep with the theme or jump back to the red and gold? _________________ Oh good, my way. Thank you Vizzini... what's my way?

I love the Oriental vibe of the Skorne but your reasoning for the Egyptian color scheme makes sense. They look great (of course) and the details are quite good.
Maybe you could split the difference between the official colors and yours by going toward a different part of the Orient. China has some vast desert areas so painting your unit's figures in a Warring States period style or maybe a Mongul style would make sense. _________________ "So understand / Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years / Face up ... make your stand / And realize you're living in the golden years" -- from "Wasted Years" by Iron Maiden |
