Summer months bring hot weather, vacation plans and the opportunity for a lot of hobby activities. As we get older, we discover that this time period seems to get shorter and shorter so making plans becomes more of a difficult art form. We’re here to help with a spotlight on a number of things going on over the next several weeks.
Here at home in the Guild, we have four upcoming Guild Game Nights on our regular second and fourth Fridays of the month. Depending on the night, we’ll have between five and seven game tables running fantasy and science fiction RPGs as well as a couple of miniature war games. We also will have a fifth Friday Guild Social Night and then our big Annual Meeting to launch Guild Activity Year 20.
In the nearby area, a few hobby-themed conventions are available. Dice Tower Con is going on in Orlando right now and it is a pretty impressive grouping of gaming action focusing on the wide world of board games but also featuring RPGs and some miniatures. At the end of September, our friends with HMGS-South will be hosting Hurricon 2019 as they wave the flag for historical miniature war games. There show also offers non-historicals plus a strong panel of RPG action. (The LRPG, of course, will be on hand joining in the fun and promoting our own brand of gaming to the show’s program.)
For those able to manage a bit of travel, Gen Con 2019 will be happening at the start of August in Indianapolis. Four-plus days of everything gaming (with a good bit of various other geek-centric genre content available too), a massive main hall with hundreds of vendors and about 60,000 attendees in a great city make this a must-go-to event. And then over the extended Labor Day weekend, Dragon Con 2019 takes over downtown Atlanta. While it now is known primarily as a pop culture convention, it always has had a very strong and active gaming panel with really good “free range” games scheduled along with official events from game publishers.
There also are other medium- to large-sized events happening throughout our local area and beyond. It’s just a matter of keeping an eye on calendars and show listings found in various forums online. But, as we said at the beginning, the LRPG has quite a lot going on here at home. Our next event is coming up on Friday July 12 and we hope to see you all there! (And bring a friend too!)
